A site visitor writes:

How to tell the people on my lists:

that exposing so many email addresses in their “From” field is dangerous to those addies and terribly annoying for recipients who have to scroll down interminably to get to the heart of the message?

and just as annoying leaving up to 10 headers (the original & subsequent email forwarders) on the emails?

I usually delete all those headers and leave just the latest forwarded to me. Am I right?
Thanks very much!

Good job! Part of understanding E-mail Etiquette is to also knowing recognizing the opportunity to guide and teach others about proper practices. Otherwise how will they learn?

Being a list owner/manager puts you in a great place to help get the word out about the issues that you mention that many still do not realize how important they are to being perceived as a courteous e-mailer.

What you can do is send your list subscribers to my articles that cover these very topics:

Dont’ Brush Off Privacy
5 Rules for Forwarding E-mail
How to Down-edit Your E-mails

For those who are on mailing lists where you do not know all the other subscribers on the list, being aware of and informed about these issues is simply the responsible thing to do.

Choose to ignore theses issues and you risk the perception as self-serving and not someone we can trust with our e-mail address (let alone any other info).
