E-mail Forwarding Tips and Advice

January 6, 2010 by Judith

Seems around the Holidays allot of e-mails were being forwarded around. Some incorrectly, others without thought or comment and even some that shouldn’t have been forwarded at all!

This is the number one topic I’ve been e-mailed about over the past week or so. So, I’ll list some site resources here for you in one post that you can then bookmark, forward or keep on hand when you need it.

First of all if you forward, always follow the 5 Rules for Forwarding E-mails. If you know someone who isn’t aware of these guidelines, kindly point them to this article.

The two biggies folks complained about most about forwarded e-mails this Holiday Season?

  • Forwarding of Private E-mails. You just don’t do this! It is a breach of trust and reflects your complete lack of character and ethics when you forward private and personal e-mails sent to you alone to others without the Sender’s permission. Shame on you!
  • Forwarding Hoaxes. Regardless of how noble or righteous the topic may be, vet all e-mails at Snopes.com before assuming their legitimacy and passing them on as if they were true.

Just because you can hit that forward button doesn’t mean you do it without thought and consideration for the content within and those you are sending to.

Be a courteous Netizen and if you must forward, forward properly or do not forward at all!
